International Child and Youth Care Workers’ Week 2012

In the past we have observed International Child and Youth Care Workers' Week during the first week of May each year. At some convenient time during that week Child & Youth practitioners find time together (teatime, lunch, evening) with their colleagues (in an agency, college, department) to recognise and celebrate each others' contributions to this fine profession — and perhaps to make their work better known to their local communities and fellow service professionals.

From this year, the US-based "Thank a Youth Worker Day" organisation has joined us in this first week of May and have written as follows:

We would like to offer you an invitation to participate, again or for the first time, in an international effort to thank those in the child and youth care field.  This year with new partnerships, Thank a Youth Worker Day is moving to be part of an international week of recognition in the field of child and youth care work.  The International Child and Youth Care Week is the first week of May, and as part of this week, Thank a Youth Worker Day will be celebrated in the USA on May 3.

Participating is simple, and your personal and organization’s involvement can be as easy as saying thank you to those in the field, or as impactful as hosting events and getting the entire community involved.  You’ll find a complete list of ways to be involved at www.thankayouthworkerday.org and more on the week at www.cyc-net.org, but consider these 4 simple steps:

  1. Visit www.thankayouthworkerday.org and www.cyc-net.org

  2. Make plans to thank youth workers in your organization on May 3 or some other day the first week of May.

  3. Sign up for ideas and email reminders at http://eepurl.com/j2ndj

  4. Sign up as an organization involved by emailing us at info@thankayouthworkerday.org and see your organization listed on the website.

So at any time that is convenient during that week, arrange to share a cup of tea together or an evening meal, or perhaps arrange a bigger community event, to share our special work, to acknowledge and thank our colleague — or whatever your group think would be appropriate.

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU PLAN, AND ARRANGE TO SEND US SOME NEWS AND PICTURES OF YOUR LOCAL CELEBRATION, SO THAT WE MAY SHARE IT MORE WIDELY ON THIS SITE. EMAIL US ON cyc-net@icon.co.za – The Editors, CYC-Net
