International Child and Youth Care Workers’ Week 2012
From Texas
I have some news to share. I'm pleased to announce that
Kinder Emergency Shelter youth art project for the commemoration of 'Thank A
Youth Worker Day' on May 3rd, 2012 was successfully completed at the end
of its third week as planned. All the youth workers at the shelter were very
supportive and this is reflected in the expression found in the greeting
cards created by the youths from our facility at Kinder Emergency Shelter.
The youth project was carried through the original plan by having 3 groups
with a leader come up with group ideas for their cards and work on their
projects. Prizes were awarded to all the groups in order of best theme,
cooperation and creativity for completion. We are pleased that our
youths enjoyed the activity and had opportunity to demonstrate their
imaginative, creative, social, and "can do" skills. Staff also learned of
the varied levels of shelter youths' cooperative, social interactive,
communication, and group skills in this peer-mediated learning
project. Copies of our youths' production are attached for display on
the 'Thank A Youth Worker Day' website with love from Kinder Emergency
Shelter youths in Harris County, Houston, Texas.
