Instructions to contributors
- The International Journal of Child and Family
Welfare is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed quarterly publication.
The Journal publishes empirical papers (including meta-analyses) and
review papers, dealing with issues related to all fields of child and
family welfare and with issues related to youth care (e.g.,
residential care, foster care).
- Manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor: Hans
Grietens, Section of Orthopedagogics, Faculty of Psychology and
Pedagogical Sciences, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Vesaliusstraat
2, B-3000 Leuven, Belgium. E-mail:
hans.grietens@ped.kuleuven.ac.be
Submission is a representation that the manuscript
has not been published previously and is not currently under
consideration for publication elsewhere. A statement transferring
copyright from the authors to Acco will be required before the
manuscript can be accepted for publication. The Editor will transfer
the necessary forms for this transfer.
The 2001 Publication Manual of the American
Psychological Association (Fifth Edition) should be used as the style
guide for the preparation of manuscripts, particularly with respect to
such matters as the citing of references and the use of abbreviations,
numbers and symbols.
The entire manuscript, including references,
quotations, and tables, should not exceed a maximum of 8,000 words, be
typed double-spaced on one side of paper, with generous margins.
Please submit the original and three copies (including copies of all
tables and illustrations).
A title page is to be provided and should include
the title of the manuscript, author’s name, author’s affiliations and
the suggested running head. Affiliations should be typed as a footnote
to the author’s name and comprise the department, institution, city,
and country. Affiliations of all authors should be included. The title
page should also include the complete mailing address, telephone
number, fax number and electronic mail address of the author
designated to read proofs.
An abstract preferably no longer than 150 words, is
to be provided as the second page.
A list of 3-4 key words is to be provided next
below the abstract.
References should be listed alphabetically at the
end of the paper and be referred to by name and year in parentheses.
The style and punctuation of the references should be conform to
strict APA style. For example:
Nunnaly, K. J. (1996). The
psychology of children and adolescents. London: Sage.
Jones, I., & Smith, J. (1996). Child
care in the European Community. International Journal of Child &
Family Welfare, 1,101-115.
Jones, 1. (1996). The development of
young children in foster and residential care. In A. Smith, J. Jones,
& P. Hammer (Eds.), Welfare services for children (pp. 1-15).
Utrecht, the Netherlands: SWP.
Tables and figures should be presented on separate
sheets. Figures must be camera-ready prints, or good quality output
from computer laser printers. Tables and figures should be clearly
numbered and captured below. Legends for tables and figures should be
self-explanatory. The desired position of tables and figures should be
indicated in the text. Authors must obtain permission if they use
tables or figures from other sources.
Footnotes should be avoided as much as possible. If
absolutely necessary, footnotes may be included and typed at the
bottom of the page to which they refer, using Arabic numerals.
After a manuscript has been accepted for
publication and after all revisions have been incorporated, the final
manuscript should be submitted to the Editor’s Office as hard copy
accompanied by electronic files on disk. Label the disk with
identifying information (author’s name, title of the manuscript, name
and version number of the computer program it was written with) and
make sure that the disk is the one from which the accompanying
manuscript (finalized version) was printed out.
