Introducing the new Supervision Series

Last month we introduced a new series on Supervision in Child and Youth care.  With it we invited CYC-Net members to engage in a dialogue about supervision in the field.  We hope that this series may also give fruit to further discussions on the CYC-Net Discussion Forum.  So, if you are stimulated by any of the writings here, we invite you to discuss them there.

With this series, we also invite you, as a ‘supervisor’ or a ‘supervisee’ to share your thoughts and experiences of supervision in our field.

We do hope that you will participate one way or the other.

Below we have re-printed the original invitation so that you might see how easy it is for you to contribute to this series.  Join us and join in.

THE ORIGINAL INVITATION

Supervision in Child and Youth Care Practice is so vital and yet an often,
sadly, neglected area of support for the practitioner.  Most of us who
became supervisors had little, if any, experience of effective supervision
ourselves, and there are few opportunities to learn about supervision -
especially supervision specifically relevant to the daily practice of Child
and Youth Care.

We would like to run an on-going feature about supervision on Cyc-Online as
a small way of contributing to the knowledge base of supervisors, and those
thinking about supervision.  And we would like to do with a 'from the field,
for the field' approach.  So ... as you might have expected ... here comes
the 'pitch'.

We are writing to invite you to consider writing a small paper for the
supervision feature:  It might be:

  • a description of a supervisory experience (successful or not)

  • a description of some aspect of supervision which you think is
    important

  • written as a supervisor or a supervisee

  • about the role of supervision and its importance

Now, such a paper need not be long.  Indeed we encourage short submissions -
a few pages well said is a fine contribution.  And it need not be a formal
paper - indeed we encourage the expression of your own voice and opinions.
But it must be relevant to supervision in Child and Youth Care practice.

If just 12 of you were interested in doing this, we would have a paper
each month for the next year.  So, how about it.  It is a chance to express
your own ideas, and to contribute to a needed area within the field.

If you are interested, but hesitant about your writing, we would be glad to
help you in any way possible.  So, if you are willing to take this step with
us, please email Thom at garfat@videotron.ca to let us know.
