Research Award

The Governor General`s Gold Medal
is
given each year at Canadian Universities
to the Doctoral research found
to be of the
highest quality for that year.
In 1996, the Governor General’s Gold
Medal at the University of Victoria was awarded to Thom Garfat, PhD for
his research into the characteristics and process associated with the
effective Child and Youth Care Intervention. It was the first time this
award had been granted for studies related to Child and Youth Care Work.
It is this research, based on a study
of the effective interventions of Youth Care Workers with troubled
youth, which forms the foundation for the training offered by
TransformAction. The published research is available from the Journal
of Child and Youth Care, Volume 12 (1 and 2).
