Director made a giant
contribution to children and the arts
in Western Australia
The Commissioner has congratulated artistic director of the Perth International Arts Festival Jonathan Holloway and his team for delivering the major event over the weekend, the Incredible and Phenomenal Journey of The Giants to the Streets of Perth.
Using giant mechanical puppets, the event attracted huge numbers of children, young people and families across all generations as the characters played out an intricate story celebrating Indigenous culture and commemorating the centenary of ANZAC.
Jonathan has been an Ambassador for Children and Young People since 2012, advocating the importance of children and young people’s participation in and exposure to the arts.
Acting Commissioner Jenni Perkins said there was great energy at the Giants’ event, which reflects the potential of the arts to positively influence children and young people’s lives.
"There is a lot of evidence that shows involvement in the arts enhances a child’s wellbeing and can be a powerful tool for making their voices heard," Ms Perkins said.
“I would like to congratulate Jonathan for his successful tenure as director of the Perth International Arts Festival and for his commitment to ensuring the festival reaches out to children and young people across the State.”
The 2015 Perth International Arts Festival continues until 7 March. For more information visit the Festival website.
